Crazy Eights Summer Hockey Camps come to a close

Thank you to all of you who participated in Crazy Eights Summer camp. We had a fabulous summer this year with more then 200 girls participating this summer. This was our largest summer with 5 full camps in 5 different cities. Everyday of running camp was a new adventure with smiles, laughs, and new stories to tell. The summer kicked off at Wausau for our second summer and then moved to Hartland for the very first time. The talent was different every week but full of kids willing to learn. Following Hartland we went to the original Crazy Eights location and for the 7th summer Eagle River. I love to go back to my home town and help the local hockey see that female hockey players are  available to inspire young girls. The last two locations are our largest and still quite new to our camp. This was our 3rd summer in Madison and our 2nd summer in Appleton. The talent at these two locations was phenomenal and we saw major development throughout these two weeks for those girls.

I would ask any of you that are reading this and have participated in Crazy Eights in the 2011 Summer if you could give us some feedback? How did your daughter like the camp? What did she learn at camp? and did she walk away with something new?

Summer Begins

Wausau Camp June 13-17th kicks off our 5 weeks of summer hockey camp. We look forward to seeing the girls again this summer and working on their hockey skills. To remind all of the girls to bring water bottles, tennis shoes, a snack and their hockey gear. We are excited to challenge he girls to their limit in new areas. Please feel free to come by and watch our staff interact with the girls.

If you haven’t signed your daughter up please contact me for more information on last minute sign ups 608-628-2144

Summer 2011

Have you signed up for camp yet? Please check out the 2011 summer camps. The staff is filled with 2010 Olympians, NCAA champions and World Champions. It is going to be a great summer to learn from the best. Please contact me with any questions regarding who will be working what camp or prices. Camps start in a couple of weeks in Wausau and we have room in all of our camps for your daughter.

There may be changes to the Madison and Appleton U18 sessions as a results of low numbers. These changes with benefit those still interested because the session turns into a small group.

Easter

“When I was a coach, one of my biggest challenges was helping my athletes understand that improvement happened in the off-season. Each year, I got the same song and dance about how they had worked hard during the season and needed time off in the summer. Yet I knew that a strong work ethic was crucial to my athletes’ success. Those who “kept at it” in season and out were better off in the end.

In Proverbs 10:5 Solomon teaches us about a wise young person who worked hard all summer and did not waste time. Apparently the young people in Solomon’s day also needed to make the most of their opportunities, though they didn’t have as many of today’s distractions, like video games and cabin TV.

It’s not easy helping young athletes understand the year-round effort required to improve their game. SO I’m encouraged whenever I see young people shooting baskets (pucks), playing catch or riding bikes rather than sitting around.

Obviously, whatever our work-teaching, coaching, administrating- we need to take it seriously. This also applies to our relationship with Christ. It takes disciplined time to get to know Him and grow closer to Him. Yet the more we do, the more we want to be with Him. Why?

Because we discover in Jesus Christ not only the standard for our work ethic but also the trustworthy God who loves us enough to sacrifice His life on the corss to bring us to Him. Through His Holy Spirit, He delights in working in us that which pleases Him (Hebrews 13:21), shaping our character, directing our steps and using our gifts- professional or spiritual- for His purposes.

As we draw near to Him daily, wanting to hear His voice and learn His ways, we can’t help but find ourselves eager to work towards the “harvest” in season or out!”  -Jere Johnson from Heart of a Coach

Happy Easter!!!

My Retirement

March 25, 2011

Jinelle Zaugg-Siergiej, a member of the silver medal-winning 2010 U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team, today officially announced her retirement from the U.S. Women’s National Program.

The Eagle River, Wis., native skated for Team USA for five years, playing in a total of 53 games. During that period, she helped the U.S. Women’s National Team to the silver medal at the 2007 International Ice Hockey Federation World Women’s Championship and second-place finishes at the Four Nations Cup in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010.

ZauggSiergiejAction1In addition, Zaugg-Siergiej skated in two Under-22 Series (2006 & 2007) and was a member of the 2009-10 U.S. Women’s National Team during the Qwest Tour. In total, she notched nine goals and 13 assists while representing the United States.

“My experience with USA hockey has been a roller coaster filled will memories that will last me a lifetime. The best moments included playing in front of thousands of people in the Olympic gold-medal game and other tournament championship games, all while representing my country, family, friends and Eagle River,” said Zaugg-Siergiej. “Meanwhile, the low times taught me how to overcome adversity, while challenging me physically, mentally and spiritually. I would not be where I am today, have experienced what I have or met such amazing people if I had not been given those opportunities.”

Zaugg-Siergiej played four years of college hockey at the University of Wisconsin, where she helped the Badgers to back-to-back national titles, including in 2006 when she scored two of her team’s three goals in the championship game. Upon concluding her college career in 2008, she was the program’s all-time leading scorer with 89 goals.

“Jinelle was an important piece to our puzzle here at Wisconsin – not only did she score a lot of goals, but they came at key moments in big games,” said Mark Johnson, head women’s ice hockey coach at the University of Wisconsin and also the head coach of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team. “All of her hard work paid off when she got the opportunity to don the USA jersey in Vancouver and live out her dream of playing on the Olympic stage. I was fortunate enough to coach her throughout much of her Team USA career and she has a lot to be proud of as she moves on to the next stage of her life.”

A 2008 graduate from the University of Wisconsin, Zaugg-Siergiej is now the head coach of the Arrowhead High School (Wis.) girls’ hockey team and runs the Crazy Eights Hockey Camp. She is married to Mike Siergiej and is the daughter of Chuck and Pam Zaugg.

“We are extremely appreciative of Jinelle’s contributions over the course of her career with USA Hockey,” said Reagan Carey, director of women’s hockey for USA Hockey. “Additionally, we are excited to see that Jinelle is dedicated to giving back to the game through her new role as head coach of the Arrowhead High School girls’ team – she will be a terrific role model for those young players.”
